Teesside went down by just four points at Tweedside with a 47-43 defeat with a Heat 14 fall for Jack Hagen proving costly.
Trailing by just four points, Teesside looked to have played a trump card bringing in American Hagen to ride with Swede starlet Sven Svensson, but whilst flying around Jernej Keglovits to momentarily claim second place, he collected too much dirt and could not hold the bike. He quickly removed his bike from the track to allow team-mate Svensson to continue for the race win.
But team boss Graeme Bailey refused to do anything but praise his North American racing star. "I am not going to put the shackles on Jack, he saw a chance of second and went for it and almost held it, it was just a bit too strong, but he will learn.
"Yes the result might have been different but it was a great team effort, we only ran five lasts along with the fall which says a lot, there is no point in winning every race if your team-mate is last and I am pleased with how we are bonding. We had nine bonus point out thre which is great going.
"Our time will come, we have strength in every department and everyone is chipping in, both on and off the track and at the moment I could not ask them to give anymore."
Whilst Hans E Bergestol continued his good form for paid 14 - fellow countryman Olle Bjorn Thoresen looked to have banished his recent bike problems with a very good paid 12 return.
