The 'Youngs Motors' Bullets climbed off the bottom of the Academy League table with a fine 50-40 win over the visiting Hailsham Hornets.
Martin Greer led the way with an almost faultless 14 points from his five rides - losing out on a maximum return when he was a close 2nd to the Hornets No.1 Ronie Flanagan in Heat 13.
The Bullets started well and soon took 5 Heat advantages in the first 8 races to lead by 10 points - including a superb 5-1 in the 8th by Will Stone and rider of the night Lewie Carr - this was particularly pleasing as both enjoyed a more productive night following extensive coaching sessions at the NSSPC base earlier in the week.
Team Manager Paul Duff was reluctant to single anyone out in particular but was clearly bouyed by the result "It's still a long way to go to get up the table but I feel the wheels moved in the right direction today. We had been a little low fter the start to the season and were a little unlucky to have found ourselves bottom of the pile last week, but we had a team meeting in the week and the lads have responded well. Of course it's a small step but it's a forward one and hopefully this will be the springboard we need to put us into the frame"
Scorers were as follows :-
Bottesford 50
Zoltan Slepukhin 7 points from 4 rides
Will Stone 5+1 (4)
Mike Cartwright 7(5)
Hamish Hamilton 5+1 (4)
Martin Greer 14 (5)
Luke Patryk 3 (3)
Lewie Carr 9+2 (5)
Hailsham 40
Ronnie Flanagan 14+2 (6)
Russell Genz 4 (4)
Jaz Tank 3+1 (4)
BenLleighton 11 (6)
Boris Pletscher 4+1 (3)
Edwin Ebbs 2 (3)
Ross Flooks 2 (4)
Next up for the Lincolnshire septet is an away meeting at Burslem, where skipper Mike Cartwright hopes the Bullets can fire again "The key objective tonight was to get a home win. Home form has a big bearing on the season and we were both inconsistent and unlucky last week to lose at the Arena. We need now to go and grab an away point or two, if we can, to nullify that home loss. Its early days and its how you finish the second half of the season that's important - the trophies are won then. It was a real team effort tonight and may just be the turning point for us. I was disappointed to miss out on a few more points personally, I felt I was unlucky to be excluded in Heat 5, it was a case of first bend bunching coming out of the first couple of turns and I was left with nowhere to go, the ref saw it differently, but hey I'm a racer and was edged out and it was a clear all 4 back. Still we bagged the points, so, as skipper I'm delighted with that. On a final note, how good was Lewie Carr, he has tons of ability and when he's in the groove he's a trump card at 7. Martin Greer was also imperious today, but it's a team game and everyone, save poor old Hamish grabbed a Heat win"
So the Bullets returned to winning ways this week and look forward to the next challenge in the Potteries
