SIM SPEEDWAY 2015/16 - ACADEMY LEAGUE -
Charlemont Chargers have moved back up the league table into second place after a comprehensive win over the Stone Cross Stars at the All Saints Stadium. The meeting was a great sucsess on and off the track for the chargers with fans very impressed with the clubs new state of the art food outlets and track shop. The fans flocked to pick up there goodies which saw the terraces full of blue white and gold.
On the track Neil Johnston was showing just an asset he is in this league with a paid maxiumum and he was supported well by his fellow top average rider Wayne Douglas who took the honour of Star Man at the end of what was a pulsating meeting. The scores were close untill heat 8 when Ray France and Lewis Drager scored what would be the first of three 4-2s in a row and set up a healthy cushion of 9 points going into the interval. However the interval gave the Stars chance to get there heads together an rally themselves up and Ben Harris and Stefan Botezatu came out and stormed to a 1-5 to bring the scores back within 4 by team riding to perfection to stop the disapointing Ian Lennon and Chris Williams punishing the scoreline even more.
Heat 12 and then Chargers realised they had a match on their hands and Ewald Dirtl in his new position of number 3 in the team came out and hit back with the home side scoring a 4-2 to settel nerves of a tight finish. This galvanised the Chargers and they finished with a flurry top two Chris Williams and Neil Johnston showed how it is done in heat 15 and left the away side standing at the gate and easily won heat 13 to put the result beyond doubt..
Manager Comments
'Firstly Id just like to thank the fans for getting behind the team, they really can make a differnce and its great to see the track shop empty and our colours on the terraces. We want to have a sucsessful team and we can only do that with people through the gates and we will hopefully see that rise with the improvements weve made and are going to continue to make to this stadium.'
'Secondly, a big well done to Lee Davis our coach who took two of our lads away for a bit of extra help and they have come back from it scoring extremely well. Lewis Dragger has struggled to get points but his 7 points tonight with the extra reserve ride really shows how far he has come. And unsung hero of this team Ray France has come and scored his worth aswell so a big well done to everyone involved and we hope to keep it up.'
'The team showed what they can do tonight when they knuckle down, we was put under some pressure but the scoreline in the end shows that were big hitters. Niel is great to have in the side and his influence on and off the track has been supurb a real captain to his fellow riders. Ian had a bit of an off night, we didnt send him to training as he was ticking along nicely but tonight I think the fall in his first heat may have knocked him and his confidence a little bit about.'
'Really looking forward to the fours, were going there to win it and get us a bit of silverware and already our season will have been a sucsess. Like I said at the very start, were finding our feet and winning isnt everything this year but were going well and we have a good side so we might aswell push for it. I will name the team shortly and hopefully we can go to The Megano and give the crowd some entertainment.'
