After an indifferent start to the AL campaign and languishing second from the bottom, the Bottesford Bullets finally found some form.
8/9/2015 Bottesford vs London Jets
A narrow 47-42 home win over the high flying London Jets in early September really seemed to kick start the Lincolnshire team. This also coincided with changes to the line up and tactics by Team Manager Paul Duff and the averages change for the riders. Martin Greer replacing Zoltan Stepukhin at Number 1 and Will Stone dropping into the reserve berth, swapping places with Lewie Carr, as well as the signing of Ricky Ede on loan.
Duff was quick to praise the home win over the Jets."London came here in good form and with only 6 fit riders, after Zoltan's injury, we were up against it. However the team bonded superbly and we were 13 points clear after 10 heats. Hamish Hamilton had his best night yet in a Bullets' vest scoring paid 14 from 5 rides, before running a last in the final heat, after being closed out in the first turn and losing ground.Everyone else was solid and chipped in with at least sixes and sevens, Ricky had a fine home debut and justified his signing, winning his debut race in some style, to the delight of the home fans."
The home side managed to avoid finishing last in 8 of those first 10 races with Hamilton winning 3 of those (one as Rider Replacement for Stepukhin in Heat 1, his partnership with Carr in Heat 3 saw the hosts to a 5-1 heat advantage to push home the early advantage to lead by 6 points. Jets' No.1 Scott Allen bagged Heat 4 after a good race between him, Carr and Hamilton before Greer and Stone (in for Stepukhin) triumphed without reply in the next race as first, Chad Wilkin, and then team mate Tom Hennesy retired gifting the Lincolnshire side a 5-0.
With plenty of top order power on paper, London were forced into tactical changes in heats 8,9 and 10 but the Bullets remained comfortably ahead.A lead they needed with Allen and fellow Heat Leader Vaclav Cervenka due out in the final heats.
Allen and Jamie Airey combined for a Jets' 5-1 in Heat 11 over Stone and Bullets' skipper Mike Cartwright to close the gap to 9, before Hamilton and Ede combined for a 4-2 to stretch the lead into double figures again in the very next race. Allen and Hennesy then grabbed another maximum and a 4-2 in Heats 13 and 15 respectively, to reduce the gap to 5.
