Another barnstorming finish away from home from the Bullets, merited more away points as they clawed their way back in some style.
Abertillery Dragons 45 Bottesford Bullets 45
The Bullets performed a minor miracle to haul back a 12 point deficit after a slow start to the meeting. In fact they got off to the worst start possible. Abertillery hit the track running as Davie Langfield and Stojen Lukanov raced to a maximum heat advantage over Martin Greer and Lewie Carr. Ricky Ede managed to split the home reserve pairing in the next, but Will Stone couldn't get past Gwynne Jones.
Two more home 4-2's extended the Dragons' lead to 10 points.
In fact it was Heat 6 before Bottesford provided their first race win of the meeting, Mike Cartwright the man, as he raced around the Dragons' Lukanov and Langfield on consecutive laps to cross the line first, unfortunately team mate Stone continued a miserable night, for him, running in last.
With Abertillery 12 ahead - Paul Duff opted to place Greer in for Lewie Carr as a tactical ride in Heat 8, Greer did the business and raced away, and despite a valiant effor, Ede was unable to get past Jones but the gap closed by 2.
Stepukhin was thrown into the next race in place of Stone, but the Khazakstanian was unable to profit as Abertillery gained a 4-2, despite Cartwrights's best efforts. The Bottesford Captain was next to have a go at a tactical ride and he combined superbly with Hamish Hamilton for a 5-1 for the Bullets in Heat 10.
Greer and Carr repeated the feat in Heat 11, and suddenly, the Raptors were on the rack with the lead now cut down to 4 points with 4 races left to go and Greer, Hamilton and Cartwright leading the charge. The Dragon's fans found their voices again though as Connor Whitelaw and Jones steadied the ship with a 4-2 over Stepukhin and Stone, as the pair continued their quiet meeting.
Cartwright and Greer, then romped to a huge 5-1 over Huw David and Lukanov in the Heat Leaders race, and Abertillery looked rattled. Cartwright hit the front on the first bend and looked for Greer immediately, Greer though was set for a real ding dong battle with David, as Lukanov slipped to the back after a tight opening bend. Second place must have changed hands four or five times over the four laps but it was Cartwright who got to the chequered flag first and the led was down t just 2 points.
A shared Heat 14, won by Hamilton as Ede retired, set up the nominated race for a grand finale, which lived up to the billing. Greer pipped David and Cartwright beat off the intentions of Whitelaw to grab a draw in dramatic fashion.
