Week 14 sees the Cats travelling to Canvey Island, but much like week 13, just because the Cats aren't around doesn't mean it's all quiet at The Grovedale. One of the best stadia in the UK will this week host the penultimate round of the South Midlands Juvenile Jaunt.
It's a competition that sees a fair bit of local interest, with Cats youngster, 14 year old Ryan Betts currently sitting in fifth, despite giving up one or two years experience to those around him. Last time out at Blunsdon he won 3 races on his way to a total of 12, and third on the rostrum, and it's been an astonishing year so far for the 14 year old. "Ryan stands a great chance this week of cementing his position in the standings, and maybe even taking another step forward." said Cats boss Sean Wood. "No-one knows this track like he does, he knows how to set up his bike and he knows the best lines around here, he's comfortable here."
He's not the only rider this will be pretty much a home leg for though, Lloyd Byford is from just down the road, and prior to Bletchley's establishment, he was a fixture in the grandstands at The Grovedale with his family. The series leader has barely graced the shale here previously though, but that's unlikely to hold him back given his riding this year.

A season-best crowd of 401 took in Round 9 of the South Midlands Juvenile Jaunt at The Grovedale. Chantry's 16 year old Chris Holmes dropped just a single point on his way to 14 points and the top step of the podium. He was only bested by a hard charging Ethan Ashby in their first ride, one which saw young Cat Ryan Betts bringing up the rear in a start that is sure to have disappointed him.
Ryan turned it around in his next ride, getting the better of Josephs, Jagger and Goodwin, and he then reeled off another two heat wins, including a sublime race in heat 16, where a fast starting series leader Byford made the gate, but Betts went wider and wider around the boards, keeping his momentum before making an incredible cutback on the final bend to take the victory, in a race that wouldn't be out of place in the higher echelons of the sport.
It wasn't to be though, for Betts. He finished joint second with 11, but didn't get to stand on the rostrum, as he finished third in a run-off. However members of the Cats team were at his side to make sure he was aware it's the big picture that matters, and that is how he is further cementing fifth place, and his chances of progressing into the Semi Finals.
