We have been very inconsistent of late. Big away losses haven't helped with the bonus points situation and a home loss to Wantage last time out has put us in a very precarious position in the UL. Winning home matches is imperative as this is a very tight league this season with not many away wins. We will have to battle hard for the rest of the season and somewhere along the way will have to pick up points away from home.
After this week the new averages will be out and I will have to see if changes need to be made. I won't make changes just for the sake of it though. I will look to see who is available and if they are better than we already have. The guys in the team at the moment don't seem able to put together a run of good scores. Martin Shaw as always is leading from the front and scores well in most meetings but does tend to have an off match every now and then. He is, however, an inspirational captain and still a class rider as his current 4th place in the GPs shows. Erik Davidsson is proving somewhat of an enigma this season. He started the season ok and then has had a poor run of form for a rider of his standard. His average has dropped by almost a point and he has admitted he is not sure what is going wrong. I hope he can put things right as I saw him as our spearhead for a few season's to come.
The riders in the middle of the team are riding ok and scoring solidly. Unfortunately not all in the same meeting which is proving a problem. Jean-Marc Struthers has upped his average considerably since the start of the season and is looking the talented rider I thought he was when I purchased him last season. Peter Doyle has surpassed expectations after moving up from the PL this season. He has struggled a little since riding in the main body of the side but has impressed me with his attitude and will push on even more next season I'm sure. Brad Easty has now settled into the UL nicely in his debut season. He will become a top Aussie rider and top rider for the Lightning. At reserve both Kalle Mikkelsen and Kenneth Krogh have struggled but have shown glimpses of promise. Young Kenneth is definitely one for the future and his average is just beginning to creep up.
So it is tough to know if anyone out there can come in and do a better job than what we already have. We will see.
In the JJ young Nick Turner has completed the 10 rounds but was unable to qualify for the semis. He looked a lot sharper in the final couple of rounds so next season will hopefully see him make a big breakthrough. He will work hard over the winter to address what weaknesses he has and will work closely with Mariusz our coach.
