Teesside Transporters have snapped up American hot-shot Eugene Burkes from Budapest Bulls for the rest of the season.
The 17-year-old will come into the side on just over 3 which stems from his average from Euro League 2, but having ridden in just four meetings he was nearer the 8 point mark.
Burkes ha already seen the Dock Yard having been brought over by Teesside management earlier in the season for some practice laps and he clearly did enough to impress team boss Graeme Bailey, who has brought him in to replace Niko Weckman, who has had a tough season back in the top-flight.
"Niko and I spoke a few weeks ago, he has had problems with his machinery and we thought him dropping down to reserve would help - but things did not improve and in all honesty he was surprised we hadn't made a change but we wanted to give him a chance.
"Now we have moved for Eugene, who we think could be special. We brought him over earlier in the year after a tip off from Jack Hagen, who is a good friend of his and we liked what we saw. Now we have done the deal and he will be staying with Jack too, which is a great help for us and him.
"There is no pressure on him, we just feel those extra couple of points he could bring to a meeting could really change things for us."
