In a surprise move today Milton Keynes Cats have made changes to their septet. Despite being a team sitting just a point from the top of the league, and their averages rising from 45 to over 48.5, promoter Sean Wood has opted to make changes during the final charge for the finish line. "We have trips to Glastonbury and Ipswich, and we host Blunsdon, Stockport and Thornaby. Over the last couple of weeks a few doubts have started to form in my mind, that our 1-7 might not do the job. All season long we've had an incredibly strong number 7, First Edgar and then Zawadski, but Olejnik hasn't given me that impression, he was disappointing at Hampden, so i've decided that he will be a rider making way, and I would like to thank him for his efforts this season. Josef Gavenda will be the other rider making way. He's been ok, but he's just not hit the heights i'd expected, and getting a single point from his 3 rides at Hampden was the final straw, and once again i'd like to thank him for his contributions this year."
Onto the new blood. Firstly making his way to The Grovedale is Kings Lynn Lightning asset Kalle Mikkelsen. Kalle was unfortunate victim of mathematics in losing his place in their team, but as soon as I saw he'd had to make way it planted the seed in my mind. I've not seen much of him, but he's highly thought of, certainly by Kings Lynn, so we had to pounce. He's spent the entire day at the track today, we've sourced a top notch engine and sponsorship from a local tuner and company, and both Buck Bracey and our coach Robin London spent time with him, working on the lines and surface of The Grovedale track, and both reckon he'll be fine in the cats septet.
The second new blood isn't entirely new, in that he's been a Cat for almost his entire career on these shores. Prior to this season he came into my office and asked to spend a season away on loan. We kept in contact, watched him race on a number of occasions, and when the opportunity to bring in Kalle came up, we looked at options for the new number 7. I briefly considered a doubling up setup, but with the riders I wanted that wasn't plausible, so I spoke to longterm Cat Sergei Malenkov Jr and Estuary promoter Fred Taylor, and we came to the agreement that Sergei could return to MK for the remainder of the season. I'd like to sincerely that Fred for his assistance.
So Sergei and Kalle join Rado, Stefan, Steve, Buck and Dragan in the new look cats 1-7, which this week welcomes Blunsdon to MK, in a meeting i'm demanding all the available points from. It's time to stand up and be counted, cats!
