Kings News Week 17
Victory for Finch
Congratulations Joe Finch who continued his excellent form with victory in the PL riders championship. Victory came after a run off victory against Nico Weckman, the 3rd week running Finch has been victorious in a 2 man run off. He is quickly becoming known as the King of the match race.
Also in the meeting Kings captain Lars Meldgaard has a less productive night, finishing on only 6 points, with all of those points from 2 heat wins.
Joe Finch has fast become a favourite at the Ridgeway, firstly as a loanee and now as an asset. He's now so highly sought after elsewhere that this week became ridiculously hectic - the PL championship, Wantage's trip to Hampden in the PL, riding at home for Workington in the UL as a double upper and also guesting for Aberavon in the UL (Think the NSSPA missed that one!)
Costly defeat
The Kings suffered a crushing 51-39 defeat at Hampden this week, losing the first BP of the season. To make matters worse Scott Salkeld was involved in a horrific crash resulting in a broken eye socket.
Despite struggling a bit of late Salkeld has been a major player in the Kings success and so everyone at the club is gutted to see him miss out. The management have acted very swiftly to bring in upcoming Dane Nils Olsen on loan from Ljubljana in the EL. Olsen has already ridden at the ridgeway this season, with an impressive performance in the King of Wantage individual challenge, and will be looking to hit the ground running.
The club will now be hoping to stay injury free and have the pairs and then a massively important home league match against Glastonbury. "Our home matches are key to our success now" said boss Craig Richardson. " We need our fans to really get behind us so we can finish the season strongly."
Big Night for Youngsters
Good luck this week to Jamie Airey and John Stroud in the British Under 18s final. Both are going free of pressure and expectation looking to make a name for themselves and impress a few people.
