Chargers Are Cup Winners!
'Mission Completed' Was the first comment made by Charlemont Chargers Team Manager Steven Hunt. The West Bromwich based speedway side lifted the Knock Out Cup by just a single point against a very spirted display from the Burslam Braves. The two legged fixture was close throughout with the Golden Lions going to Burslam Park and keeping it close with just two points in it after the first 15 heats. An impressive away perfomance from the side and some great displays from the two big hitter Lennon and Williams scoring heathly to suppliment a good handful of points apeice from the rest of the Pride.
The home fixture at All Saint Stadium saw a record attendance for the second time in the AL with 856 turning upto get behind the side. The new car parking facilites eased the traffic around the stadium and the sponsers were nice and cosey in the lounge with a great view of the action. It was however a even closer meeting with the away side really pushing the Chargers all the way to heat 14 where it was all but won and scored a 2-4 in heat 15 to bring the sides to a finishing score of 90-89.
Manager Comments
'Weve done it, mission acomplished. I understand the seasons not over but we have really over achieved this season. We wanted sucsess but we have come away with two trophies could be the league title but I dont expect that and it wasnt to recently I was told we are to be promoted because its top three that went up. I hadnt really took much noticed of how it works and had the idea that just top went. So were going in to the Evolution League and were already making strides in Sim Speedway.'
'To lift a team title is what I personally wanted the pairs you dont have much control of anyh you let the riders do the buisness and luckly we have had two of the best riders all season with Lennon and Williams and would like to state now that they are going to be coming into the Evolution League with us to have a go at staying up and building this side for the future.'
'Next week, the final fixture is going to be intresting, all we have to do is win and get the away point and hope that the Wizards slip up against the Stars. We will be coming back to the Park against the Braves to win and win well. Its not important to us now and the pressue is off the guys so maybe it might be our lucky week yet again.'
