"You can't call it, you really can't." said Cats promoter Sean Wood when we caught up with him just days before the deciding week for the UL dream "Aside from Glastonbury being almost certainties for the title and rightly so, you really can't call it."
With the Cats sitting in second on 23 you'd have to say they stand a strong chance though, wouldn't you?
"Our chances are good, but nothing is guaranteed. we need to win the meeting, pure and simple, that's all we can go out and do, and with that win will come the possibly all important bonus point, given our win at Thornaby earlier in the season."
"Canvey Island are sitting just behind us, also on 23. If we finish equal with them on points, you'd think our superior points difference would see us keep second, but even that could swing. It would be a hell of a swing of some 21 points, but it could happen. They host 4th place Ipswich, who have actually won more meetings than anyone else in the league. That meeting could go either way, the bonus point certainly could, with Ipswich only holding a 2 point aggregate lead."
"Then just a point further back, and you have Chantry, Hampden, and Wednesfield. Chantry and Hampden race each other at Chantry, and again with only 2 points between them on aggregate. Wednesfield face Blunsdon."
"Everything we've been doing in this sport has been with a view to getting to the UL. That is the be all and end all, and 2 years ago we were so close but missed out, this time we can't.. we just can't. We'll be taking each race as it comes, I am in no doubt the boys know just what they'll have to do, they'll fight and they'll give it everything. We just need to have faith and fight alongside them. Riders, promotion, and above all the fans. We're in it together."
