The side is complete and settling in with 2 former Captains and Gems Hall of Fame stars returning to there successes. Carl Hooper and Daniel Lawson are back, both these guys lead many of the gems successes and the club and supporters owe them a lot if you add Current captain Scott Bridges we have a great trio of Gem leaders.
Scott Bridges, will remain Captain and he continues to be a top ten UL points scorer. Back in the GP also having finished in the top draw to qualify automatically. He as usual starts as number1.
Denis Gomozov, (the mad monk) is back home, he loves being here and the fans love him, he is suited to riding at number 5 with freestyle approach. Denis really came into his own in last seasons GP and took the rostrum on more than one occasion. He is a firm favourite and an established heat leader, it's time he pushed to be number 1 and we know Scott will support him, as competition is good.
Darren Moore, another home rider back, Darren has loads of ability and potential he just needs to pull it all together in individual meetings he nearly always promises to achieve but just misses out. He will always be in the hearts of all at Aberavon and will support his climb up the success ladder.
Carl Hooper, does anymore need to be said about this Sim Speedway icon. He returns to the fold and with still loads to offer, the pressure is off with Scott a Captaining the side all we need to do is let Carl enjoy his speedway and score loads of points, welcome back Carl.
Daniel Lawson, another great captain is also back, His record in Sim at all levels is great and he also needs to enjoy his speedway having looked after so many so far in his career to date. Daniel will give tremendous support to Batichev riding together at reserve. Daniel knows his way around the track and will add skill and experience to the make up of the side.
Hakon Rokeberg, is also staying home for a third season and we had no hesitation in bringing him back. Hakon will ride at 2 again in partnership with Scott. He is great around the pits and keeps everyone spirits up. A solid performer and firm favourite he also gives everything even when he is not scoring points.
Gennady Batichev, keeps his place following his first season in the UL, with Denis around it helped Gennady settle and we feel he will add to is average knowing the tracks better plus having Daniel to team ride at reserve we have a great double act.
With this line up the West Coast Arena has the making of a fortress.

It's clear for Aberavon Gems, sentimental attachment to previous star performer, is not working and years of building the club to sit as regulars in the Top Sphere is in danger of collapsing.
With this in mind and thanks to NSSPA board members Fred Taylor and Andy Dixon a heavy discussions action is needed and some may say a gamble is required. It's clear Otto needs to return and some fresh exciting blood is required. It is with regret I am releasing Carl Hooper and Daniel Lawson, both tremendous former number 1 and Captains. Sadly due to points Hakon Rokeberg is being released.
All three are more than capable of heat leader status in the PL and Aberavon are more than happy to talk favourable to get them fixed up.
The club would like to thank Amsterdam for agreeing to loan both reserves to Aberavon for the remainder of the season. The would like to welcome Dutch rider Rudolf Schulyer and New Zealander Jonnie Elano, who knows Daren Moore as they race in meetings together in their homeland.
Otto to has been flying in the Euro League and was in the top averages. We hope he can hit the ground running for his home track.
welcome home Otto.

Skipper Scott Bridges held a behind close doors meeting with the rest of the team today, to iron out anything going on which could affect the club climbing away from the bottom of the league table.
After about 2 hours the riders emerged all deep in thought and putting on a positive twist about the meeting and a togetherness as a side.
Scott as Captain met the press and spoke about a strong bond which will act as a platform to generate wins to keep the club in the UL and repay JC and Coach Edwards faith in all of us.

More comings and goings in the West Coast Arena. The Gems clearly in a fight for survival JC has brought in 24 year old and Wolston heat leader plus Celtic Nation International Sam McCurdy on a 7.20 average with promising G. Batichev dropping out.
JC stated Gennady still has a future and will stay a Gems asset, the move into the main body of the team has effected his confidence and learning.
Tim at Wolston was as always great to work with on the deal and the speed H/Q got it through, we at Aberavon are most grateful. As Sam has not ridden for a while Coach Edwards and Captain Scott Bridges are giving him some track time.
Welcome Sam to the Gems.

The Gems fight goes on, following an unconvincing home win and no bonus the gems stay in the mix at the bottom.
After the the meeting the supporters club held there meeting which JC and Coach Edwards attended. Later in the meeting skipper Scott Bridges joined in.
The meeting in general was ok and everyone believes the club is in good hands but concern was raised that since it was formed and worked its way to the UL and won it that following JC launching the Dragons in the vallleys 2 seasons ok the Gems have struggled although it tracks an array of stars. This season could even its first ever relegation.
JC replied to the supporters I would never let our Gems suffer and the team, Allan (coach) and myself are totally committed to keeping the Gems in the UL. If I thought I couldn't continue to serve the club I formed with everything possible I would walk away.
Abertillery was formed in principle to develop young mainly Welsh riders, although you do need some experience like Connor the captain and a points scorer in Matt Le Saux otherwise losing every week does not help the youngest lads confidence.
Scott echoed JC comments and said all the lads are 110% behind each other to keep the side in its rightful place amongst the elite. We hoped Otto returning would be the catylist to move away from the bottom of the league. At the moment sometimes we are all trying to hard and making silly mistakes which results in lost race points. The meeting ended in good spirits.

Gems supporters finally had something to cheer about with Scott and Denis romping to a pairs win in the UL Pairs. The pair scored 39 beating the runners up Lanarkshire by 2 points. JC was beaming, let's hope this is the turning point for the league run in and it continues into league points.
what was pleasing for club was the rest of the side supporting Scott & Denis, Darren & Sam helping Scott and Otto & Gennady with Denis.
Well done guys ................

With the Gems now doomed with one meeting to go and the Gems facing there first ever relegation. The atmosphere is really low. Scott loves it in South Wales and Denis is really at home in Aberavon. Otto has settled in but all three will now move on as they are UL riders only.
It it is possible and some hard discussion Darren Moore could lead the Gems into the PL.
JC has stated we have the likes of Batichev, Rokeberg, Lawson and even Hooper with Moore could form a good group with two heat leaders. But we will have to wait and see who stays and who wants to stay.
JC has said we will have to address everything from top to bottom.

JC has had meetings with all involved at both his clubs, Gems and Dragons following a disaster of a season for both clubs.
Everything was discussed and speculation is rife major changes are being proposed to the NSSPA as we speak. Everyone is tight lipped around the West Coast Arena. All we can say is JC is awaiting approval to instigate the changes he hopes will re ignite the fortunes of the Gems and help the Dragons climb the AL table following 2 poor seasons since rejoining NSSPA.
I think it is watch this space.
