Hi PL / EL Teams, Looking for a rider that will improve their average and enable you track that extra heat leader, look no further than Rory Maxted, 18, GSA 3.20 (PL). Anyone needing a JJ Rider to complete their side in Evolution League, Workington have your choice with the following: - Paul Erskine 16 8.48 (JJ) Michael Storey 15 8.27 (JJ) David Good PR mate but! Paul and Michael are this seasons JJ Individual riders as such they are not on the transfer list, riders in the top 20 are usually hand picked by the JJ Guru Rob Golsby to be added to the TL, we have our quota this season, thanks! So let them get another years experience at JJ level. All the Best

The European Champions had a choice, tear up the squad or give them a chance to retain the title.
Discussions with Vaclav Ruzusha and Liam Reay quickly followed. Phil Harrington won the argument and the side will be built based on our own assets. Vaclav looking to become a GP rider and out and out #1. Liam was pleased to be back a Workington and will look to hold down the tricky #5 spot.
Anders Solberg and Dexter Last are expected to battle for the 3rd heat leader spot, a step up on last seasons battle to avoid the reserve spot.
Returning after a season away from Cumbria are Janne Sarjale and Harvey Hedge (from Necrons).
We have a bid made for a prospect for #7 as Logheads look to retain their crown.

We are very surprised to see Oliver Christensen remains out of work, as Newmarket elect not to use him themselves.
We recommend this young rider to anyone looking for a powerhouse at reserve for the start of the season (especially in PL or EL). He trained up well last season (twice). He was an important piece of our Championship jigsaw last season.

Oliver Courtney is the final piece of the jigsaw for Workington this season. Charlemont Chargers used him as their JJ rider and he nearly doubled his starting average by the end of the year. He also impressed at the British U18 Final and is seen as a Loghead to challenge at the top in the next few years. This season is all about the experience.

Workington enjoyed the four challenge matches that was their pre-season.
49-41 Defeat at Canvey Island, but all riders were at least paid for a win. Surprised no-one sent out when Ruzucha was excluded under 2 minutes in Heat 13, also home team only opened up the scoring in the last two races.
47-43 Victory over Canvey saw the Logheads open up for the new season. Courtney won his first race, what a way to introduce yourself to the locals. Apart from a fall in Heat 3, Reay looks to have a great partnership blossoming with Last.
44-46 Defeat at home to Hull, despite the best efforts of Ruzucha. Sarjale struggled and has promised to turn it around for the cup match.
44-46 Defeat at Hull as Hedge stormed to his best score of the season and Last and Solberg both rode blinders at the Priory.
Averages: - Last 18-36-4 = 8.89 Solberg 19-37-2 = 8.21 Ruzucha 18-36 = 8.00 Reay 16-23-3 = 6.50 Hedge 16-20-3 = 5.75 Sarjale 17-11-4 = 3.53 Courtney 16-14 = 3.50

WOLSTON WARRIORS 38
Home fans feared the worst as Ruzucha and Reay failed to score in their first races and the home side were 6 down. Heat 4 saw Solberg calm the nerves with a win and Ruzucha was unbeaten in the rest of the match. A Heat 12 5-1 by Last and Hedge gave the home side an eight point lead, Solberg and Ruzucha finished the meeting with a 5-1 and a flattering scoreline for the defending champions, 52-38.
STARMAN - Anders Solberg (Workington Logheads), but was run close by Harvey Hedge.

HULL ANGELS 46
WORKINGTON LOGHEADS 44
1. Vaclav Ruzucha............ 3 3 2 3 1* - 12+1 2. Janne Sarjale............. 0 0 F - - - 0 (I) 3. Dexter Last............... 1 2 2 R - - 5 4. Liam Reay................. 0 1* 1* 3 - - 5+2 5. Anders Solberg............ 3 3 3 0 2 - 11 6. Oliver Courtney........... 0 1 0 2* 2 2* 7+2 7. Harvey Hedge.............. 2 1 1 - - - 4
The Loghead fans got to see what Courtney can do and understand why he held in such high regard by the management. We ran the Angels close, but Sarjale looked out of sorts on track and ended up with badly broken fingers. Last and Reay were unable to get the better of Hull's heat leaders so the victory slipped from our fingers.

BOTTESFORD BULLETS 44
There was a buzz of expectation as the old man of Cumbria took to the tapes in Heat 1. A few of the old faces reappeared at The Derwent Bowl because Black is back! Marko ruined the homecoming by winning the race.
For most of the evening the scores remained close as Reay struggled and France entertained both sets of fans with some breathtaking passing. Reay did have the last laugh as he won Heat 14 and guaranteed victory in the match.

Necrons 47-43 Workington Logheads
1. Vaclav Ruzucha............ 1 2 3 1 - - 7 2. Mark Black................ R 3 1 - - - 4 3. Dexter Last............... 3 1* 2 2 1 - 9+1 4. Liam Reay................. 2* 2 1* 1* 0 - 6+3 5. Anders Solberg............ 3 2 3 0 - - 8 6. Oliver Courtney........... 3 1* X 2 - - 6+1 7. Harvey Hedge.............. 0 2* 0 R 1 - 3+1
Things looked bleak in the first race, Black might have had a touch of nerves and got excluded from the first race for touching the tapes. Ruzucha completely missed the gate. Hedge used the track experience to shepherd Courtney home for a max in Heat 2. All looked good until 13, the home side drew level. Nemecek on fire and repeated the feat in Heat 15 as Last and Reay were unable to catch Urbanik.
Workington Logheads 48-42 Wantage Kings 1. Vaclav Ruzucha............ 3 2 3 1* 2 - 11+1 2. Mark Black................ 1 1* 3 2* - - 7+2 3. Dexter Last............... N2 1* 2 0 - - 3+1 4. Liam Reay................. 3 2 1* 2* - - 8+2 5. Anders Solberg............ 2 2 3 2 0 - 9 6. Oliver Courtney........... 3 1 0 0 1 3 8 7. Harvey Hedge.............. 0 1* 1 - - - 2+1 Thankfully Wantage had no support for Algreen, Vaughan or Chong. Even then, the three of them ran Workington close. It took a season high from Courtney to protect the Logheads home track record.
Reading Rebels 44-46 Workington Logheads 1. Vaclav Ruzucha............ 1* 3 3 0 3 - 10+1 2. Mark Black................ 2 0 2 2* - - 6+1 3. Dexter Last............... 1* 3 1 2 - - 7+1 4. Liam Reay................. 2 1 0 3 - - 6 5. Anders Solberg............ 2 3 3 1 1 - 10 6. Oliver Courtney........... 1 1 2* 1* 1 - 6+2 7. Harvey Hedge.............. 0 1* F - - - 1+1 Just when the potential for team changes arrived, Logheads septet stood up and decided that they would prove they were too good to b dropped. Reading had been a good run recently, fortunately both Jessup and Beaton decided to have a poor meeting. A rare victory over an Edgar team.

Workington have threatened the axe to their riders if they do not improve performances. MK were ultra from the gate and Logheads looked like the visitors for most of the match. We were proud of our home record and a thrilling meeting for the neutral is not what we want to produce for our core spectators.
A quick work out by Euro Star, Jack Hagen, after the meeting certainly set home tongues wagging for those that had elected to stay.

SIM SPEEDWAY 2020 - ULTIMATE LEAGUE -
After being read the riot act, Workington responded well. Not only entertaining the fans with some spirited overtaking, but some great team riding. Angels had to thank Norvall and Davey for making a match of it.

Mark Black has been thanked for his efforts on his Workington comeback. He admits he has been finding it tough to prepare for matches and keep his other interests going.
Coming into the side is a European Quarter Finalist, Hans Beinhorn, fresh from a full maximum for Germany in the WTC Under 21. He may just tip the balance to ensure Logheads finish the season strongley.
