Fresh from their Pairs victory, Reading were full of confidence and put Logheads to the axe (we hate Edgar). Reay and Courtney struggled and Workington turn their thoughts from champions to survival.

Canvey Island Castaways 50-40 Workington Logheads(90-90*) Castaways were too strong for Workington, but Ruzucha stole the bonus point for Workington so the team continue in the top flight next season.
Workington Logheads 46-44 Aberavon Gems(91-89) After drawing in Wales, this was another crowd pleaser. Reay, Solberg and Ruzucha were sharp from the tapes and saw the Logheads home (just) in the final home meeting of the season.
Milton Keynes Cats 43-47 Workington Logheads(89-91)
Kryznowek kept the home side in it, but a solid team performance from Workington saw them through to victory and grab the BP.
Not a bad season, a decent stab at defending the crown. Vaclav was strong, but seemed to find life at #1 tougher, nearly got to GP and rode for Czech. Anders, Dexter and Oliver made improvements and will be hoping to continue on an upward trajectory next season. Liam made the GP Challenge and almost unbeatable on his day, those days in UL may be fewer and far between. Janne's season was over before it began, Mark stepped in and did the job required. Hans looks a prospect and will be proper threat if he gets the hang of the Derwent Bowl.

2020/21 Season is here and the Workington side have a few familiar faces as they look to regain their crown.
1 Vaclav Ruzucha 8.44 Gutted at missing out from the Czech WTC Squad and the GP. This could be the season to improve again.
2 Hans Beinhorn 5.86 Showed plenty of style and we hope Hans will rack up the points in a full season for the Logheads.
3 Anders Solberg 8.05 Has improved every season in Cumbria, will need to continue that development for us to have a title challenge.
4 Oliver Courtney 5.75 Showed great promise and we'll be hoping he can maintain his average at least.
5 Dexter Last 7.37 Promotion would be attacked if Dexter lined up elsewhere, some of his almost insane last bend heroics are worth the entry fee alone.
6 Austin Albu 4.39 Liam Reay goes out to restart Cleator Moor, Austin comes to debut in the UK and is well suited to the big Workington track.
7 Harvey Hedge 4.78 Developing well and hoping to push for a place in the top 5 this season.

League Matches
Wolston Warriors 50-40 Workington Logheads
Aberavon Gems 46-44 Workington Logheads Workington Logheads 49-41 Lanarkshire Lions Reading Rebels 43-47 Workington Logheads Workington Logheads 48-42 Bottesford Bullets
KOC First Round
Workington Logheads 47-42 Bottesford Bullets Bottesford Bullets 46-44 Workington Logheads(88-91)
Averages 9.33 Dexter Last 9.33 Anders Solberg 6.83 Vaclav Ruzucha
6.80 Oliver Courtney 6.60 Hans Beinhorn
4.42 Harvey Hedge 2.74 Austin Albu
So to sum up the first quarter of the season, things are OK. Overcame the Bullets to the next round of the cup, that was one hell of a meeting in Bottesford and could have gone either way (Pucovskiu made our life very difficult). Ruzucha is having to put up with the boo-boys from Cumbria, as he has his first season of no improvement. We have reviewed our options, but he's a fixture at The Bowl and we are backing him to turn things around, once he doesn't have to ride in Heats 13 and 15. Albu has done what was asked of him when signing his contract, score at home. Unfortunately, we have had mostly away matches. Next week, who will take the #1 spot, the race is on between Dexter and Anders.

Taking a look at the kids, the Saplings are mid table without any home track advantage to talk about.
Each rider has shown promise when bought in for extra coaching and Pelham took many things away from the camp.

An unbeatable performance at home and away by Vaclav Ruzucha inspired the Logheads to victory in the cup. Their reward, (we hate Wales) a final against the Gems.
Another battle against John that we take personally since the days of the M4 Trophy, that we always seemed to lose.

Austin Albu has struggled away from Cumbria this season. As the opportunity arose to strengthen the side, he has been released to continue his education at Cleator Moor.
This has given us the opportunity to sign Chris Garner from Prague. The young Welshman is keen for the opportunity to get himself a team spot in the UK next season, hopefully at Workington.

Chris may not have had the debut he wanted, but the point he scored made sure that we did not lose the match against Reading. Unusually, we got the Bonus Point against a team with Edgar in it, although he had a quiet time in Derwent for a change.

It wasn't until Heat 13 that the fight in the visitors was shown and nerves started to get to the home riders. Solberg and Last were aided by Jelen engine failure in Heat 15 and both finished the race on one wheel to take the trohpy ahead of Kravchuk. Workington have named their side: -
Dexter Last Carter Fortin Robbie Cormack Oliver Courtney Liam Reay Mark Dempsey Luke Dempsey
A big change of emphasis and turnover of riders.
Liam Reay returns after a season getting Cleator Moor started. He's there for his experience and proven ability.
Ruzucha and Solberg are replaced with youngsters Fortin and Cormack. Fortin comes in loan after a great season with Wolston. Cormack is seeking to become Scotland and Workington's #1.
At reserve, it's the Dempsey brothers. Both have the potential and Mark is rated as one of the top Irish rising stars. Luke finished the season second in the Junior Averages, despite riding for bottom placed Blunsdon.
Last is now a regular with England and has the opportunity to lead the side. Courtney had a great first season and will be targeting a heat-leader spot before the season is over.
